"To become a Patron of my local cancer research charity is a very special opportunity”

Hope Against Cancer is privileged to announce that professional tennis player, Katie Boulter, has chosen to support the cause of world-class cancer research and care right here in her home counties as a Patron of the Charity.

Born in Woodhouse Eves, Leicestershire, where her tennis journey began on the local court, Katie has gone on to achieve fame in the sport and is a prominent advocate for charitable causes and community work.

On her Instagram profile she describes herself as ‘a human then a tennis player’.

Katie has supported causes across the country as a Wimbledon Foundation Champion and through events with Age UK, among others. Her focus has largely been on issues around loneliness, homelessness and supporting older people.

Hope Against Cancer fund world-class local cancer research and care that brings the latest treatment to people with cancer in the region and goes on to inform and support the wider national and international efforts to overcome cancer. The focal point of this work is the Hope Cancer Trials Centre at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, which offers cutting-edge therapies and clinical trials for local people with cancer.

Katie said, “Charity and community support is so important to me and to become a Patron of my local cancer research charity and to help support amazing cancer research and care in my home counties is a very special opportunity”.

Nigel Rose, CEO of Hope Against Cancer added, “Katie is already extremely active in supporting many community initiatives. She is proud of her local Leicestershire roots and, as a local charity, so is Hope Against Cancer.

“Having Katie agree to be a Patron of our Charity will give a tremendous boost in our ability to spread the work of HOPE and highlight the life-saving cancer research we are supporting, research that brings hope to our local communities across Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond”.
