Alice's cycle challenge raises over £100,000 for Hope Against Cancer
Alice said, “the day was spectacular. I just want to thank everyone who has supported, sponsored, donated and rode with us.”
Press Release:
On the August bank holiday weekend, 77 riders took part in a cycle challenge which took them from Old Dalby, Leicestershire to Sheringham, Norfolk in one day to raise £100,000 for the local cancer research charity, Hope Against Cancer.
The riders set off at 5.30am in groups of 10 and made their way to pit stops at South Wytham, Spalding Rugby Club, Kings Lynn Fire Station, and Stanhoe before they started arriving in Sheringham from 4pm. It was a perfect day for riding and by the time evening fell they had reached the incredible fund-raising goal.
The ride was organised by Alice Greaves from Old Dalby with support from the team at Hope Against Cancer and a host of volunteers and sponsors.
At 24, Alice was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. At 26 she was diagnosed with secondary cancer in her lungs, and this year had surgery for a third tumour in her brain.
Despite these diagnoses, Alice has dedicated herself to fund-raising for local cancer charities, so far raising around £350,000. Her efforts have seen her win local fundraising awards, an invitation to meet King Charles III, a BBC Make A Difference Award, and she is a finalist for a Pride of Britain Award.
This year Alice has held two major fund-raising events. The first was a Summer Ball in June for Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre and the second was this ride for Hope Against Cancer, where she is an ambassador for the charity. She has now raised approximately £150,000 in 2025 alone.
When Alice received the call from the Pride of Britain Awards, she was told that they had been inundated with people nominating her.
Nigel Rose, CEO at Hope Against Cancer, said that “Alice is one of the bravest, most courageous and determined young woman that many of us will ever meet. This money will be transformational in continuing to fund our experts at the Leicester Cancer Research Centre, who are working hard to develop targeted therapies and personalised medicines to improve cancer treatments, including triple negative breast cancer!”
Breast cancer research is a cause particularly close to Alice’s heart. She spends a lot of time on her Instagram (@ifanyonecanalicecan) advocating for people, especially young people, to check their breasts, to ‘know your normal’ and how to spot the signs of cancer.
Alice said, “the day was spectacular. I just want to thank everyone who has supported, sponsored, donated and rode with us.”
In her finish line speech, Alice made a special note of “the amazing Charlotte who has absolutely smashed it!” Charlotte is just nine years old, and she completed thirty miles of the course to show her support.
This is the second time Alice has completed this ride for Hope Against Cancer and in support of the local cancer research and care they fund in Leicestershire and Rutland.
